Property Tax Calendar

New Jersey's property tax system is governed by state statute, which means that despite significant variation in what homeowners in different parts of New Jersey, there are important constants. New Jersey's assessment date, which is both the point in time when the owner of a property is liable for property tax and the point in time at the property's value is determined, is October 1. New Jersey property tax appeals, which allow homeowners to contest the assessment, starts the later of April-1 or 45 days after notice date. The date which property tax bills become due on is February 1, May 1, August 1, and Novemeber 1.
